More Plane Tickets, More Love Stories | Tailgate Photography in Vancouver

If you had told me years ago that one day I’d be hopping on a plane, flying across Canada with my camera and photographing love stories in Vancouver… I probably would have thought you were describing one of my biggest dreams. And now I’m actually doing it.

This trip to Vancouver was a big one for me. It was my first work trip, a chance to step outside my comfort zone, create somewhere completely new, and remind myself why I keep chasing the big dreams I have for Tailgate Photography. I went to attend The Bougie Bridal Shootout (that’s a story for another blog). And then I got to meet Gabriela & Aidan.

There’s something about arriving in a new city with a camera in your hand that makes you see everything differently.

Every corner becomes a potential photo location. Every patch of dreamy light catches your attention. And when you get to photograph a couple like Gabriela & Aidan in the middle of it all? Even better.

We met at Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver for their couples session, and I knew pretty quickly that I was going to love photographing these two.

They were sweet. They were easygoing. They laughed together. They cuddled in close. But my favourite part? The way he looked at her.

Seriously. There were these little moments when Aidan would look at Gabriela and completely forget I was standing there with a camera. THAT is the stuff I live for.

If you’ve been around Tailgate Photography for a while, you already know I’m not going to spend your entire session telling you to stand perfectly still, put your hand here, tilt your head there and smile at me. That’s not where the magic happens. I want movement.

I want you walking together, bumping into each other, laughing because something feels ridiculous, pulling each other closer and forgetting for a second that this is even a photoshoot.

I’ll guide you the entire time, but I’m always watching for what happens between the prompts. The glance. The hand reaching for yours. The little smile. The way your person looks at you when you’re not paying attention. Gabriela & Aidan gave me so many of those moments.

Okay, Vancouver… I get it. Queen Elizabeth Park was such a beautiful location for a couples session. Between the gardens, greenery, pathways and views, there was something gorgeous everywhere we turned.

As a photographer coming from Halifax, getting to create somewhere completely different was so inspiring.

I love my East Coast beaches, rocky shorelines and ocean sunsets more than anything, but give me a plane ticket and a new location to explore with a couple who is completely in love? I’m there.

This session had everything I love about couples photography: soft romantic moments, genuine laughter, movement, connection and two people who weren’t afraid to just have fun together.

This Vancouver trip confirmed something I’ve been dreaming about for Tailgate Photography for a long time. I want to travel more.

I want to photograph couples in places I’ve never been. I want to fly across Canada for engagement sessions. I want to pack my camera bag for destination weddings.

I want to photograph proposals on beaches, elopements in the mountains, weddings in new cities and couples who decide their photos deserve to be an adventure.

Halifax will always be home. But Tailgate Photography doesn’t have to stay in Halifax.

If your love story takes you to Vancouver, Toronto, New York, California, Europe or somewhere completely unexpected, I want to hear about it. Because getting to travel while doing the thing I have loved for nearly two decades? That’s a dream I’m going to keep chasing.

You don’t have to be getting married in Nova Scotia to have Tailgate Photography there. I’m available for destination weddings, elopements, engagement sessions, couples sessions and proposals across Canada and beyond.

Tell me where we’re going.

I’ll bring the cameras. You bring the love story.
